DJ Kennymann (Swagga Production)
Kenny is one of the original members of Australia’s turntablist/DJ crew Terntable Jediz. He is well recognized amongst friends and peers for his deep-rooted passion for beats and breaks.
In the past decade, Kenny had supported international artists including A Trak and Infamous (The Allies, USA), Icy Ice (World Famous Beat Junkies, USA), The Scratch Perverts (UK), DSK (China), Wordy (China) and DJ Koga (JPN) amongst many others.
Since his return to Hong Kong in 2004, Kenny continued to develop his own profile within the local underground music circuit, pushing the classic sounds of 80s - 90s hip-hop and r&b, and his true passion of jazz, funk, soul, disco, rock, latin and afro beats.
2008 onwards had seen Kenny became more active with local underground club parties, featured as guest DJs for locally respected promoters and organizers including HEAVY, Fdotgov, Artist Events Management, Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy etc. Upcoming projects include his recent affiliation with Swagga Production’s G&G Nights as resident DJ/ promoter, which will see the coming of more events and parties in Hong Kong focusing on bringing quality soulful music.
DJ Jumbo a.k.a. Kiyo
DJ Kiyo as known as DJ Jumbo is a Hong Kong-based DJ hailing from Kyoto, Japan.
Kiyo has mad knowledge of classic funk and soul sounds that easily mesh with what house party favorites will get the dance floor poppin’.
His style is kickin’ old school jams with seamless scratch cuts and tight turntable skills that should please anyone searching for a high-energy, danceable jam.
Kiyo had been spinning since 1999, stating his influences were not only from many of the overseas idols such as Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, and DJ Format, but more so from the many local pioneers such as A.Y.B. Force, Ulticut Ups!, Downwell 79’s and many other underground talents from Japan.
2003, Kiyo connected with DJ / producer / label founder Bull Jun (Flat Rock Records, NYC), which later on gave him the opportunity to release his debut and now highly sought after mixtape named “Funky Code” as DJ Jumbo in 2005 – a true reflection of Kiyo’s passion towards classic hip-hop, funk, soul and heavyweight beats.
DJ Taku "yaman" Hirayama
Taku Hirayama stepped into the club jazz scene in Fukuoka, Japan in sometime late 90’s. With the whole jazz and electronic music scene seeing a crossover, he also naturally progressed with this and started to appreciate some more electronic based sounds.
With his DJ career taking off in 2000, he was offered a residency at a local club named “Kieth Flack” in Fukuoka where he was given the opportunity to show his hometown what fusion of sound is really about. Initially during his residency, he focussed on jazz and brazilian music but enriched and widened the spectrum of sound to include nu-jazz, deep house, disco, funk, soul, underground hiphop, breakbeats, drumn’ bass, chill out… mostly everything to create a soundscape that people really could move to. His sets was based on the fact he covered so many styles and created a journey through sound. With such his diverse of music selection, he had played at many clubs and bars also had many supporting act for domestic or international guest DJs.
Eventually, he had been influenced with more electronic music including disco dub, tech house, deep techno and started to change his playing style. And it was about the same time when he relocated himself from Japan to Hong Kong in end of 2006. He has been getting new inspiration from this wild and chaotic city and the people of many different walks of life, which is now reflected to and further enhancing his wide spectrum as freestyle DJ. Has already played at many clubs, bars, restaurants that include as well as many fashion brand’s party for “Silly Thing” “BAPE” “I.T.” “Joyce”. In 2008, he belonged to a DJ booking agency and contributed to connect music scene between Japan and Hong Kong as both of DJ and promoter. And also was invited himself as guest DJ to play in Okinawa and Kobe, Japan, had a huge success as promoter of “Asian Force” which was held in Fukuoka and featured DJs from HK in 2009.
Now Taku is known locally and internationally as a freestyle DJ who plays versatile quality music which created his original appreciation for music in many fields. |
